Agartala, 6th November 2026 : A day after Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha chaired a high-level review meeting on the law and order situation in the state and directed the authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards cross-border smuggling, police arrested eight more persons late Thursday night in connection with the attack on BSF personnel at Ashabari in Sepahijala district.

On Thursday, Dr. Saha chaired the review meeting, which was attended by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police (DGP) in-charge GS Rao, Home Secretary Abhishek Singh, Inspector General of BSF Princee Rani, and representatives of the CRPF and Assam Rifles.

Sources in the state government said that the Ashabari incident, in which suspected smugglers and villagers allegedly attacked BSF personnel in Sepahijala district, was discussed in detail during the meeting.

“The authorities presented the facts of the incident and briefed the meeting on the action taken so far by Tripura Police. It was informed that 10 of the 19 persons named in the FIR had been arrested,” a source said.

The official further informed that the Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards cross-border smuggling and ensure strict legal action against all those involved in the incident.

Expressing serious concern over the recent attack on BSF personnel while they were on duty in the Ashabari area, Dr. Saha asserted that acts of violence against security personnel would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He also directed the authorities to take stringent action in accordance with the law against everyone found responsible.

Meanwhile, Tripura Police officials said that 10 persons were arrested on November 3, in which four BSF personnel were injured after suspected smugglers and villagers allegedly attacked them.

“Eight more persons were arrested late Thursday night. Only one accused remains to be arrested, and we will apprehend him soon. The investigation is underway,” a police official said.

With the latest arrests, the total number of persons arrested in connection with the incident has reached 18 out of the 19 named in the FIR.
