Agartala, 6th February 2026 : Panic and outrage gripped the Srinagar Milan Chakra area after multiple dead dogs and cats were recovered from the residence of retired BSNL supervisor Sunil Chandra Das. Locals allege that the house was being used as an unregistered animal shelter where disturbing incidents had been unfolding.
According to reports, a woman named Nibedita Sengupta had been keeping rescued animals in the house for years under the guise of running a shelter. Residents claim that not only dogs and cats but even monkeys were brought in. However, due to lack of proper care, many of the animals died. Shockingly, the carcasses were allegedly left inside the house, causing unbearable stench and severe environmental pollution in the neighborhood.
Locals said they had been complaining for months about the foul smell emanating from the house but no action was taken. Finally, after NGOs were alerted, volunteers entered the premises and recovered several dead animals. Residents suspect that illegal activities may also be linked to the household.
The incident has triggered widespread anger and concern in the area. With public health and environmental safety at risk, residents have demanded immediate intervention from the administration. Animal welfare groups have also urged authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take necessary action.
