Death certificate issued in name of living man: Allegations of property grab against ruling party leader

Agartala, 11th January 2026:   A shocking case has surfaced in Kamalasagar, where a local ruling party mandal secretary, Reena Chakraborty, along with her husband Sukumar Chakraborty, allegedly declared Sukumar’s elder brother Shankar Chakraborty dead in official records to seize ancestral property.

Shankar Chakraborty, a resident of Deen Dayal Panchayat under Kamalasagar assembly constituency, had been living outside the state for professional reasons for several years. Upon his sudden return home, he discovered that his name had been fraudulently used to obtain a death certificate, enabling his brother Sukumar and younger brother Pankaj Chakraborty to transfer their late father’s property into their own names.

Shankar said that the fraud was carried out by misusing the names of senior ruling party leaders, including the Chief Minister and Bishalgarh MLA Sushanta Deb, to lend credibility to the false documents.

When Shankar protested, he claims he was threatened with dire consequences. He alleged that one night his brother attempted to attack him with sharp weapons and warned him that if he spoke out, he would be killed.

Now left with no alternative, Shankar has approached the media personnel, demanding immediate intervention by the administration. He has appealed for his rightful share of ancestral property to be restored and for strict legal action against those involved in the conspiracy.

Local residents have expressed concern, alleging that such fraudulent practices involving fake documents are increasingly being facilitated by ruling party leaders.
