Devastating fire destroys home at Melaghar, losses estimated at over Rs 5 lakh

Agartala, 14th February 2025:   A catastrophic fire engulfed the home of Nepal Sarkar in Ward No. 2 of the Melaghar Municipal Council, reducing the house to ashes and causing estimated damages exceeding Rs 6 lakh. The incident took place this afternoon, also destroyed two scooties, furniture and valuable documents.

Initial reports indicate that the fire was likely sparked by an electrical short circuit. At the time of the incident, Nepal Sarkar was not at home. The flames were first spotted by his daughter-in-law, who immediately raised an alarm. Her screams alerted the neighbors, who rushed to the scene in an attempt to control the blaze.

Despite their efforts, the fire quickly spread and consumed the entire house before the fire department could arrive. Local residents expressed their concern and grief over the incident, acknowledging the significant loss suffered by the Sarkar family.

Upon reaching the site, the fire department worked diligently to extinguish the flames, but the damage had already been done.
