Agartala, July 07, 2023: A tragic fire engulfed the residence of an unemployed teacher, Idris Mia, in the Gangail Road area of Ramnagar on Thursday afternoon. The fire quickly razed the house to the ground, leaving the family destitute. Local residents promptly alerted authorities, and three fire engines rushed to the scene. It took considerable time and effort to bring the fire under control. The incident has left the family devastated, as Idris Mia had already lost his teaching job and was earning a livelihood by selling shoes on the sidewalk to support his family.
According to Idris Mia, upon realizing the fire, he swiftly woke up and rushed to the kitchen to disconnect the gas connection. However, by then, the fire had already intensified, forcing him to escape through a window. Unfortunately, their home was quickly consumed by the flames, along with 10 neighboring houses. Idris Mia suspects foul play, believing the fire was a deliberate act of sabotage. The family estimates a loss of ₹20 lakh due to the fire.
The incident has left the entire family, consisting of 14 members, in deep distress as they have lost everything they possessed. Tragically, two of Idris Mia’s brothers, Babul Mia and Quddus Mia, also sustained injuries in the fire. In response to the situation, Nivas Das, the councilor of Ward 15, promptly arrived at the scene and assured the affected families that the government stands by them. Efforts are underway to determine how to provide financial assistance to support the family during this difficult time.
