Agartala, 19th March 2024:  In the wake of the Lok Sabha election announcement, Dharmanagar has been enveloped in an atmosphere of discontent. The source of the unrest has been traced to the actions of certain sector officers, who have been described as overly enthusiastic in their adherence to leftist ideologies.

The situation escalated when Sector Officer Bijit Saha reportedly deviated from his assigned route to enter private residences and remove flags. These were not limited to political party flags but extended to religious symbols such as the Ram flag, traditionally hoisted on homes and temples.

The incident prompted an immediate response from Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, who visited the area to assess the situation. In a statement, Sen criticized the sector officer’s actions, emphasizing that while the removal of party flags during the election period is standard procedure, the intrusion into personal property to remove religious symbols is not within the officer’s jurisdiction. He highlighted the importance of adhering to legal boundaries and cautioned against actions that could exacerbate tensions or misinterpret the law.

Speaker Sen appealed to the residents of Dharmanagar to maintain the communal harmony and peace that characterize the region, especially during the sensitive election period. The events in Dharmanagar serve as a reminder of the delicate balance between electoral regulations and the respect for individual rights and religious sentiments.
