Agartala, November 11: The Dharmanagar Municipal Council has taken an initiative to support the self-help groups of women by organizing a Diwali mela in the city, where they can sell their handmade candles and lamps. The mela, which has been going on for several years, aims to provide a source of income and empowerment for the women who make their own products.
Pradyut De Sarkar, the chairman of the Dharmanagar Municipal Council, told reporters that there are three stalls in the mela, where around 1600 to 2000 women from different self-help groups display their candles and lamps.
