Agartala, 18th June 2026: Residents of Matiya area under Hezamara Block in the No. 1 Simna Assembly constituency have raised serious concerns over the poor condition of their only connecting road, alleging years of neglect by the authorities. Locals claimed that despite repeated appeals, no initiative has been taken to repair the damaged brick-paved road, which has now turned into a major threat to public safety.
The road serves as the only route for more than a hundred families living in the area. Residents depend on this stretch to reach schools, colleges, and hospitals. During the monsoon season, the road becomes almost unusable, creating severe hardships for villagers.
Locals further alleged that the condition is so poor that emergency services such as fire tenders would not be able to enter the area during any crisis. The lack of proper road connectivity has also created difficulties in medical emergencies, with patients reportedly being carried on shoulders to reach healthcare facilities.
Speaking to the media, residents questioned the role of their elected representatives, stating that the area falls under MDC Rabindra Debbarma and MLA and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma. They urged the representatives to address their long-pending demand.
Local youth Krishna Debbarma expressed frustration over the situation, saying the biggest concern is transporting critically ill patients due to the absence of a proper road. Residents have appealed to the concerned department to immediately take steps for repairing the road and ensuring basic connectivity.
