Disabled Student’s Family Faces Hardship Amid Delay in Government Allowance

Date:

Agartala, 28th June 2026:  A poor daily-wage earning family from the Kanchanmala Daspara area under the Sadar subdivision is facing severe financial hardship as they continue to await a government disability allowance for their son, despite repeated applications.

The family of Bishwajit Das, a labourer by profession, says their situation has become increasingly difficult. Their son, Bikas Das, a Class VII student, is reportedly born with a disability and is unable to walk properly due to multiple health complications. The child also holds a valid government-issued disability certificate.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, the boy’s mother, Monidipa Das, became emotional while describing their struggles. She said that her husband is the sole breadwinner of the family, and his irregular income from daily wage labour is barely enough to sustain household expenses, let alone cover the cost of the child’s medical treatment and education.

She alleged that despite submitting multiple applications to the concerned departments, the family has not yet received any disability pension or financial assistance.

The family has now appealed to the state government and the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education to urgently approve the disability allowance for their son, stating that such support would significantly ease their financial burden.

It now remains to be seen whether the authorities will take prompt action following media attention and extend support to the struggling family.
