Disaster Preparedness Drill to be Held at Agartala Airport tomorrow

Agartala, 13th November 2024:  In a proactive effort to enhance earthquake preparedness, a large-scale disaster response drill is scheduled for tomorrow in the old building area of Agartala Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport.

To finalize arrangements, a preparatory meeting was held today in the airport’s conference hall, chaired by Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura and Chairman of the West Tripura District Disaster Management Authority.

The meeting saw participation from Major General Ajay Kumar Verma of the National Disaster Management Authority, Airport Director Kailash Chandra Meena, CDRI Advisor (Transport Sector) Kiran Gowda KS, and State Disaster Management Authority Project Officer Sarat Kumar Das. Officials from NDRF, Police, TSR, Assam Rifles, BSF, CISF, and the Fire Service were also in attendance.

In his address, Major General Verma highlighted crucial measures to adopt during earthquakes, emphasizing the importance of preemptive action and awareness. He urged state-wide awareness programs to ensure residents are informed on disaster response.

Agartala Airport Director KC Meena discussed the airport’s preparedness initiatives, and CDRI Advisor Kiran Gowda KS stressed the need for earthquake-resistant infrastructure at the airport. NDRF also showcased disaster response tools and equipment at an exhibition in the old airport building.
