Agartala, 14th October 2025:  In a spirited effort to promote awareness about HIV and AIDS, the Unakoti District Sports and Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with the Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) organized a district-level “Red Run” early this morning.

The awareness run commenced at 6:30 AM from the premises of the District Sports and Youth Affairs Office, stretching to Kailashahar Airport and looping back to its starting point. The event drew participation from over a hundred students representing various schools and colleges across the district.

Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das inaugurated the event in presence of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sirshendu Chakma, District Sports Officer Anup Yadav and other dignitaries.

In his opening remarks, Das emphasized the importance of public awareness in combating HIV/AIDS. “Today’s Red Run is not just a race—it’s a vital initiative to alert society. Ignorance and misconceptions are the greatest enemies in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Through awareness, safe practices, and compassion for those affected, we can truly resist this epidemic,” he said. “The youth are the future of our nation. It is imperative that they carry forward this message of knowledge, health consciousness, and humanity to build a more informed and empathetic society.”

Das also outlined the primary modes of HIV transmission, including unprotected sexual contact with an infected person, transfusion of contaminated blood, sharing infected needles or syringes—especially in drug use or medical settings—and mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. He clarified that HIV does not spread through casual contact such as handshakes, sharing food, or coughing and sneezing.

Following the run, winners were awarded certificates and prizes. Officials from the District Sports Department affirmed that similar initiatives will continue in the future to deepen public understanding and promote health awareness throughout the region.
