Agartala, 23rd December 2025: South Tripura witnessed a vibrant celebration of the District-Level Watershed Festival today, organized under the WDC–PMKSY 2.0 project by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The event took place in the scenic premises of the Rupaichhari Agriculture Supervisor’s Office.
As part of the program, local farmers were distributed saplings of fruit-bearing and forest species, symbolizing both environmental protection and sustainable farming practices.
The festival’s chief guest, Tarun Kumar Das, Deputy Director of Agriculture for South Tripura and Project Manager of the district’s watershed initiative, emphasized the importance of natural water conservation. “Through the watershed project, rainwater is being stored in ponds, lakes, and check dams, making it available for agricultural use. This will significantly reduce irrigation challenges in the future,” he said.
Das further noted that the initiative is expected to boost agricultural productivity and improve farmers’ economic conditions.
The event was also attended by Raju Debbarma, Agriculture Officer and Sector Officer of Rupaichhari, along with other departmental officials and a large gathering of farmers. The farming community welcomed the initiative, praising it as a vital step toward water conservation and environmental protection.
