Agartala, 9th August 2026 : : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that he would leave for Delhi and that there was a possibility of holding a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over various issues.
Political activity has intensified in Tripura ahead of the upcoming Village Committee elections, with speculation mounting over a possible meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior leaders of the Tipra Motha party, including its founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who left for New Delhi on Sunday, indicated that his Delhi visit could be linked to a possible high-level political discussion, although he said he had not received any specific information about the agenda.
Speaking to reporters in Agartala before his departure, Dr. Saha said there was a possibility of a meeting in Delhi, including with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, he clarified that the exact details of any proposed meeting had not been communicated to him yet.
Explaining his frequent travel between Agartala and Delhi, the Chief Minister said he had originally planned to remain in the national capital but returned to Agartala for a day to attend to some important work. After completing those engagements, he was now travelling back to Delhi.
Dr. Saha said he had continued with his official responsibilities after returning to Agartala and indicated that discussions could take place during his stay in Delhi.
On the possibility of a meeting with Amit Shah, the Chief Minister said such a meeting was possible. He also pointed out that details of high-level meetings are generally not disclosed in advance due to protocol and administrative procedures.
“Such meetings are often communicated at the last moment. Several administrative processes have to be completed before an invitation is formally extended,” Saha said.
Meanwhile, reports that senior Tipra Motha leaders have been called to Delhi by the Union Home Minister have triggered fresh speculation in Tripura’s political circles.
The upcoming Village Committee elections have added significance to the developments, with political parties already discussing possible electoral understandings, seat-sharing arrangements and potential realignments.
Against this backdrop, the Chief Minister’s Delhi visit and the possibility of discussions with the central leadership are being viewed as politically significant ahead of the crucial Village Committee polls.
