Agartala, 16th August 2024:   In a significant crackdown on illegal alcohol transportation, Bishalgarh police arrested a driver named Suleiman Hossain in the Chelikhala area with a large consignment of liquor. The arrest took place after police intercepted an Alto car bearing registration number TR01T0563 carrying 130 bottles of foreign liquor from various companies. The alcohol was reportedly being transported to the Rahimpur area.

The liquor was seized from the vehicle and Suleiman Hossain was taken into custody. Hossain claimed that he was only responsible for delivering the goods and that the actual owner of the liquor was a man named Saikat Das. According to Hossain, the liquor was intended for illegal sale during the upcoming Mansa Puja, a popular festival in the state. It is believed that the alcohol was being hoarded to be sold at inflated prices during the festivities.

Acting on a tip-off, Bishalgarh police successfully intercepted the vehicle and arrested the driver. The seized liquor and the car have been handed over to Bishalgarh Police Station, and further investigations are underway to apprehend those involved in the illicit operation.

Police sources indicate that they are intensifying efforts to curb the illegal transportation and sale of alcohol ahead of the Mansa Puja celebrations, aiming to prevent any disturbances during the religious event.
