Agartala: August 20. The drivers of public transport today joined in a protest by blocking the Gandacherra-Ambassa road demanding renovation of the road whose condition is pathetic.

After a long three-and-a-half-hour blockade, the blockade was lifted with the assurance of the sub-divisional administration.According to the drivers, about 53 km road from Gandacherra to Ambassa is in poor condition. The road is full of potholes that cause extensive damage to vehicles and lead to accidents.

For the past year, the road has become impassable due to this poor condition. The matter was brought to the attention of the Public Works Department and the Sub-Divisional Magistrates many times and demands were made to repair the road. But no steps were taken from their end.Due to this kind of indifference of the administration, the drivers on one side are annoyed and the pedestrians are also suffering. Even the vehicles plying on this road are gradually facing issues.Protesting this, the drivers today blocked the road from 7 AM on Saturday.

The drivers said that the road should be repaired immediately. Soon after the information the Sub-division administrative officers rushed to the spot. After receiving assurance from them, the drivers finally withdrew the blockade.
