Agartala, 2nd March 2026: Prolonged dry conditions and an unrelenting heatwave have triggered a severe water crisis in Lathiachara village under the Jampuijla block, leaving hundreds of kani of agricultural land parched and cracked.
Local sources said there has been no significant rainfall in the area for several months. As a result, vast stretches of cultivation land have dried up, with deep fissures visible across the fields. Farmers who had already sown seeds now fear total crop failure due to the acute shortage of water.
Residents alleged that the village lacks adequate irrigation infrastructure and cultivation largely depends on rainwater. The absence of rainfall this season has severely affected paddy and other crops, pushing many farming families into financial distress.
A section of farmers warned that without immediate alternative irrigation support and government assistance, they could incur heavy losses. They have urged the administration to assess the drought situation on priority and extend financial aid to the affected cultivators.
For now, anxious farmers continue to look to the sky, hoping for rain to salvage their fields and livelihoods. Brick pile collapse injures three workers at Ambassa
