Agartala, 14th November 2025: Acting on confidential information, a joint team of Tripura Police from Sonamura Police Station and personnel of the 81 Battalion BSF conducted a late-night raid on Thursday at Kalapaniya–Shalkhet in Sepahijala district. During the operation, they detained a suspected drug peddler and recovered a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, said that 30.170 kg of dry cannabis (ganja) was found concealed inside a blue plastic drum in the possession of the suspect.
“A white Hyundai Aura (registration number TR-03Q-0568) was also seized. Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was being used to transport narcotics. During initial questioning, the arrested individual named several others from the locality who may be linked to the operation,” the officer said. He added that further investigation is underway and that anyone found connected to the case will be prosecuted as per law.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Sonamura Police Station, and more arrests are likely.
The accused has been identified as Delwar Hossain (28). He is expected to be produced before the court today, where police will seek appropriate remand.
