Agartala, 9th March 2024 :   A man from Agartala was brutally beaten up and threatened to kill by a group of drug peddlers for raising his voice against their anti-social activities in his neighbourhood. The victim, Kanta Prasad, a resident of Goalabasti area of the capital, lodged a complaint at West Agartala Women’s Police Station on Saturday, seeking justice.

According to Prasad, his neighbour, Shyam Babu, and his family were involved in various illegal activities, such as drug trafficking, gambling, and prostitution, in their house. They also created a nuisance in the area by playing loud music, abusing and intimidating the locals, and inviting outsiders to their house till late night. Prasad said that he and other residents of the area were living in fear and could not protest against them.

On Friday morning, Prasad gathered some courage and confronted Shyam Babu and his family for their anti-social behaviour. However, he was attacked by them and their associates, who thrashed him mercilessly. Prasad managed to inform the police, who arrived at the spot. But even in front of the police, Shyam Babu’s son assaulted Prasad again. Prasad was taken to GB Hospital for medical treatment.

On Saturday, Prasad filed a case against Shyam Babu and his family at West Agartala Women’s Police Station, with the help of some social workers.
