Agartala, 1st June 2024: The Bishalgarh police arrested Maman Mia, son-in-law of a known drug smuggler from his in-laws’ house on Friday night. The arrest was carried out by a team comprising members of the Sepahijala District Intelligence Department, SI Animesh Pal, BSF personnel from the 150th Battalion at Putia Border Outpost, and officers from the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station.
Maman Mia, implicated in NDPS Case No. 109/2023, had been on the run since October 30 of last year when police seized Phensedyl and Eskuff syrup worth Rs 10 lakh from his residence. The raid was part of an ongoing effort by the Sepahijala Intelligence Department to curb drug trafficking in the region.
Maman Mia was located at his father-in-law Feroz Mia’s house in the Putia area. Following his arrest, the police brought him to Bishalgarh Police Station. On Saturday afternoon, OC Rana Chatterjee of Bishalgarh Police Station presented Maman Mia in court, seeking a three-day police remand to further the investigation. The coordinated effort marks a significant step in the district police administration’s crackdown on drug-related crimes.
