Agartala, 2nd June 2024: A domestic dispute fueled by alcohol turned deadly on Saturday afternoon, leaving a husband dead and a wife in police custody. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm in the Manikgarh area of Sabroom town, resulting in the tragic death of 42-year-old Sanjeev Roy.

The accused, Jayanthi Nama Roy, 33, was arrested early Sunday morning at 5 am by local authorities. According to the police report and witness statements, including those from the couple’s children, frequent quarrels occurred between the husband and wife, particularly when alcohol was involved.

On the evening of the incident, Sanjib Roy brought home wine, which the couple consumed along with their meal. The situation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in Jayanthi stabbing her husband Swapan in the throat with a knife. The severe injuries led to profuse bleeding from his throat and mouth, ultimately causing his death.

Witnesses to the horrifying event included the couple’s children, who recounted that their parents fought every day after drinking. On that fateful Saturday, their mother, in a drunken rage, attacked their father with a knife. The chaos prompted the children to call their grandmother from the neighboring house. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sanjeev Roy was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
