Durga Idol Immersion in Feni River Highlights Indo-Bangladesh Cultural Harmony at Ramgarh

Date:

Agartala, 22nd October 2026 : Transcending geographical boundaries, the spirit of cultural harmony and shared traditions came alive at Ramgarh along the India-Bangladesh border as people from both countries witnessed the immersion of Goddess Durga’s idol in the Feni River on the concluding day of Durga Puja.

The immersion of the Durga idol of the local Shri Shri Dakshineshwari Kalibari drew considerable enthusiasm, with a procession passing through several important roads of Ramgarh. The atmosphere was filled with the rhythmic beats of traditional dhak drums, conch shell sounds, devotional chants and the emotional farewell to Goddess Durga.

At around 4 pm, the idol was immersed in the Feni River, which flows along the India-Bangladesh border. The occasion witnessed enthusiasm and interest among people from both sides, reflecting the enduring cultural connections shared by communities living along the international boundary.

The event carried significance beyond the religious ritual itself. For people living on both sides of the border, the Feni River is not merely a geographical marker separating two countries but also an important part of their history, culture, livelihoods and social interactions.

The immersion ceremony once again highlighted how festivals and cultural traditions can bring people together, transcending political boundaries and reinforcing bonds of mutual respect and goodwill.

Durga Puja, one of the most significant festivals for Bengalis, represents not only devotion to Goddess Durga but also unity, togetherness and social harmony. While the immersion marks the conclusion of the festivities, it also carries the hope of the Goddess’s return the following year.

The scene at Ramgarh offered a poignant reminder that although India and Bangladesh are separate sovereign nations, shared cultural traditions and human emotions continue to connect people across the border.

As the waters of the Feni River carried away the colours and emotions of the festival, the occasion conveyed a broader message of peace, friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the two neighbouring countries.

The immersion at Ramgarh thus stood as a symbol of the enduring spirit of cultural harmony, demonstrating that the bonds of humanity and shared heritage can extend beyond the boundaries that divide nations.
