DYFI national secretary Himagna exposes government’s empty promises on employment for migrant workers

Agartala, July 24, 2023: The government’s assurances of providing employment have fallen short once again, as a heart-wrenching incident came to light. DYFI national secretary Himagna Raj Bhattacharjee in a press conference at Chhatra-Yuva Bhavan here on Monday brought forth allegations of government apathy towards the plight of migrant workers.

He highlighted a distressing incident that took place in the Kulubari area, Boxanagar on Monday, where a young worker named Ajay Nama committed suicide while going abroad for work.

Adding to the sorrowful news, two other individuals, Rakesh Nama and Utpal Nama, also met with a tragic fate while trying to seek better opportunities outside the South Charilam area. Surprisingly, the government has not shown any significant support to their bereaved families, and no representative has visited them to provide solace in this time of grief. The situation has raised concerns over the government’s inability to fulfil promises of providing jobs and ensuring the safety of migrant workers, he added.

In response to such a dire situation prevailing in North-East India, the central committee has decided to launch a special initiative against such injustices. A program is scheduled to be organized in September and October to address the issues faced by the region’s population.

Furthermore, a delegation from the representative party will visit Manipur in the coming days to assess the ground reality and conduct inspections to grasp the severity of the situation first hand, he also added.
