DYFI seeks action against offensive social media posts targeting Left leaders

Date:

Agartala, 28th September 2026 : The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police (SP), West Tripura, demanding strict legal action against those allegedly circulating obscene, derogatory and offensive content on social media targeting Left leaders.

DYFI leader Palash Bhowmik said a social media page named “Dimagi Naxal” had allegedly been circulating obscene videos and images concerning former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury in recent days.

He further alleged that three individuals had previously used their social media accounts to circulate offensive content allegedly generated using artificial intelligence (AI), targeting Manik Sarkar, Jitendra Chaudhury and DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb through the use of an image of a female content creator.

“We are meeting the SP (West) today to protest these incidents and demand legal action against those involved,” Bhowmik said.

According to him, a citizen, Joydeep Routh, had filed an FIR at West Agartala Police Station on September 7 regarding the matter. Bhowmik alleged that despite the FIR, no legal action had so far been taken against those responsible.

The DYFI delegation urged the police to take immediate steps against the alleged perpetrators and sought clarification from the SP regarding the action being taken over the circulation of such content on social media.
