Agartala, 26th November 2025: East Agartala Police yesterday late night carried out two back-to-back operations in the Kashari Patti and Women’s College areas, arresting five alleged drug peddlers and recovering a large quantity of brown sugar.
Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, Subrata Debnath, briefed the media on the operations. Acting on a secret tip-off, a police team first reached Kashari Patti, where they intercepted a scooter suspected of being used for drug distribution. The team seized 400 vials containing brown sugar, weighing around 5.2 grams in total. Four individuals — Joydip Ghosh, Rajesh Shil, Prasenjit Debnath, and Bikash Debnath — were arrested on the spot.
In a follow-up operation around 12:30 a.m., police received another alert and rushed to the Women’s College area. There, they intercepted another scooter and recovered 410 vials of brown sugar. The rider, identified as Rakesh Dey of Radhanagar, was taken into custody.
All five accused were produced before the court today, where police sought their remand to continue the investigation.
