East Agartala police arrested notorious thief from Chandrapur

Agartala, November 23, 2022: Acting on tip-off, East Agartala police station staff on Tuesday evening arrested a notorious thief from Madhyapara, Chandrapur here in Agartala city accused of stealing golden ornaments and cash.

Speaking to media personnel at the premises of East Agartala Police station on Wednesday, SDPO of Sadar sub-division Ajay Kumar Das said “Yesterday, a resident of Chandrapur area named Pijush Majumder arrived at East Agartala Police station and lodged a complaint that theft has taken place at his house. He claimed that he went outside the state and arrived after four to five days and found that golden ornaments, scooty, cash missing, and door broken.”

“On basis of the complaint, we have activated our secret sources and in the evening, SI Krishna Gopal Debnath and ASI Dilip Debbarma conducted operation and arrested the accused person identified as Pankaj Kumar Saha, resident of Ambassa and staying on rent near Chandrapur ISBT from Madhyapara area”, he added.

SDPO said that the accused person Pankaj is an habitual offender. An FIR has been lodged. His main purpose of theft was to take a loan from bank by depositing the golden ornaments. In the meantime, he deposited some golden ornaments to someone and borrowed some money. However, a bangle and gold chain and Rs 2 lakh 75 thousand were recovered from his possession. Today, we will produce him before the court and pray for remand. Thereafter, he will be further interrogated to know how many thefts he has done so far in Agartala city, what he had stole and so on”.

It is further learned that the accused person Pankaj is addicted to brown sugar. The case registered under sections 457 and 380 of IPC.
