Agartala, 10th January 2025:   The state of Tripura has emerged as a significant corridor for drug trade and human trafficking, raising serious concerns for the state and the country. Drug traffickers are using Tripura to smuggle drugs into Bangladesh, while marijuana is being transported to other states. In addition, human traffickers are illegally infiltrating Bangladeshi citizens through Tripura’s border areas and smuggling them to other states. These traffickers are also creating fake identity cards for Bangladeshi citizens, heightening fears of militant infiltration.

The threat of an unstable environment looms large, with the potential for militant organizations to exploit these routes. Although the state police have shown limited action, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) remains vigilant. On Friday, ED officials conducted simultaneous raids across the state.

At around 6 AM, the ED raided the residence of Apu Ranjan Das in the Boxnagar North Kalamchoura area. During the search operation, officials recovered numerous property documents, cash, and gold ornaments. However, Apu Ranjan Das fled after receiving advance information about the raid. It is alleged that Das, under the protection of the ruling party, is involved in the drug trade. His family members were unable to provide any information to the ED.

In a separate operation, the ED raided the house of Tapas Debnath, an influential figure from the Ambagan area of Bishalgarh, and a known party worker. Additionally, the residence of ASI Dhruba Majumdar of the state police was also searched, as well as the house of his father-in-law, Amal Baidya, a former police officer, in Udaipur’s Police Lines area.

Further raids were conducted at the homes of Debrabrat Dey, Bishu Tripura, Kamini Debbarma and Liton Saha. The search operations were carried out with tight security provided by over 250 CRPF personnel. The state police were notably absent from the operation.

Sources indicate that several former police officers are also on the ED’s radar, and many influential individuals may face arrest. The raids have already unearthed sensational information, and further arrests are expected to follow.
