Agartala: July 02. Superintendent of Police of Tripura Traffic Unit, Manik Das today said that various areas are being identified and steps are being taken to improve traffic management in the city.

SP Das said this during a public awareness campaign for smooth traffic system which was held on Sunday at Nabodaya Sangha premises adjacent to Durga Chaumuhani Bazar.

Apart from Das, Transport Department Officer Dibakar Das and President of Market Committee and other leaders were present.

“Various areas are being identified and programs are being taken to improve traffic management. Vehicles are parked illegally on different roads of the city at night which also causing massive traffic jam across the city. Awareness will be given first so that vehicles are not driven illegally”, he said.

He said that if Traffic Police found anyone of violating rules even after creating awareness, legal action will be taken.

“Action will be started against those who occupied the footpath illegally”, said SP.

Traffic congestion remains a persistent issue in Agartala, even on holidays. The growing number of vehicles in the city and widespread parking contribute to this problem. Public concerns regarding the traffic system have prompted the Tripura Traffic Unit to prioritize public awareness and discourage illegal vehicle parking.

The public has expressed a demand for the establishment of permanent parking zones to alleviate the traffic situation. The absence of designated parking areas in the smart city has led to numerous problems for pedestrians. It is crucial to streamline services and implement measures to decongest the city, as solely imposing laws cannot effectively address traffic congestion.

The authorities aim to strike a balance between raising public awareness about traffic regulations and implementing practical solutions to beautify the city and ensure smoother traffic flow.
