Agartala, 28th January 2026: The Eklavya Residential School, built in the Ludhua tea garden area of Sabroom subdivision with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, was intended to uplift the educational standards of tribal students. The school aimed to provide quality residential education to underprivileged yet meritorious children from hilly and tribal-dominated regions. However, that dream now stands clouded by serious allegations of corruption.
Reportedly, construction of the sprawling institution began in 2021 and was completed in 2023. But within just six months of its inauguration, multiple structural defects surfaced. Water leakage through the bathroom ceilings has been confirmed even by the school principal, while cracks have appeared in several major concrete columns, raising grave concerns about construction quality.
Local sources allege that the contractor attempted to conceal these flaws by hurriedly painting parts of the building. Residents likened the move to “covering a fish with spinach”—a superficial fix that fails to address deeper issues.
The controversy has escalated further with accusations that influential individuals involved in the project siphoned off large sums of government funds and construction materials. Money allocated for tribal education, critics claim, has been pocketed by unscrupulous actors.
Most alarming are reports that attempts were made to “manage” the media with hefty payments before the story broke. Journalists in Sabroom, however, resisted such pressure, vowing not to allow any conspiracy that could jeopardize the state’s education system and the future of its children.
The revelations have sparked widespread outrage across Sabroom. Locals are demanding an immediate, impartial, high-level investigation and strict punishment for those found guilty. Their collective appeal is clear: the transparent and development-oriented educational initiatives of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Saha must not be tainted by the shadow of corruption.
