Agartala, 24th April 2025: A massive banyan tree collapsed this afternoon in Raibura Tilla, Daulabari Gram Panchayat injuring an elderly woman. The incident took place due to the force of the light Baisakhi wind.
Reportedly, 77-year-old Lalita Nath, wife of the late Manmohan Nath was collecting flowers for puja when the tree suddenly gave way. A large branch struck her causing serious injuries.
Witnesses rushed to her aid and shifted to Sabroom sub-divisional hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Medical officials confirmed that while her condition remains stable, she is being closely monitored due to her advanced age.
Residents expressed frustration over the incident, alleging that the banyan tree had been in a precarious condition for some time. They criticized the authorities for failing to act.
