Agartala, 24th July 2026: A 65-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in a suspected hit-and-run incident at Kalamkhet Murapara under Ward No. 6 of Telkajla Gram Panchayat in Melaghar police station area.
The deceased has been identified as Chandraban Bibi (65).
According to local sources, Chandraban Bibi was returning home after finishing some work at a nearby shop. While she was crossing the road, a speeding motorcycle coming from behind allegedly hit her with great force, throwing her onto the road. The rider fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Hearing the impact, local residents rushed to the spot and found the elderly woman lying seriously injured. She was first taken to Melaghar Hospital, where her condition deteriorated. Doctors referred her to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for advanced treatment. However, she was declared brought dead upon arrival.
After receiving information about the incident, Melaghar Police reached the accident site and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the absconding motorcyclist.
Local residents alleged that since the road was recently renovated, incidents of overspeeding by motorcycles and other vehicles have increased significantly, posing a serious threat to pedestrians. They urged the administration to take strict measures to curb reckless driving and improve road safety.
The tragic death of Chandraban Bibi has cast a pall of gloom over Telkajla village, with grieving family members and residents mourning the loss of the elderly woman.
