Elderly woman succumbs to injuries after brutal family assault; Victims allege police inaction

Date:

Agartala, 9th June 2026:  A shocking incident of alleged mob assault in Asharambari Chamabasti under Champahaur Police Station has sparked outrage after a 65-year-old woman succumbed to severe injuries sustained during the attack. Family members have accused local miscreants of carrying out a premeditated assault over a long-standing feud and alleged police negligence in handling the case.

According to victim Smriti Sadhu, the incident took place on the evening of June 01 at around 7:30 PM when her father, Ganesh Sadhu, was allegedly attacked in front of his residence by Shashanka Deb, Subrata Deb, Shanu Debbarma, Rajesh Hari, Samiran Hari, and Atu Deb. Hearing his cries for help, Ganesh’s wife Niyati Sadhu, daughter Smriti, and elderly mother Satyabati Sadhu rushed to the spot but were also allegedly assaulted by the group.

Family members claimed the attackers arrived armed with a hammer and deliberately targeted Satyabati Sadhu, striking her on the head and causing critical injuries. They further alleged that after the attack, the accused warned local residents against assisting the victims or providing transportation to take them to a hospital.

As a result, the injured family members reportedly remained unattended for hours before police arrived around 2 AM and shifted them to Khowai District Hospital. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were later referred to GB Hospital. After several days of treatment, Satyabati Sadhu died on Sunday morning.

The victims’ family has alleged that despite being aware of the incident, Champahaur Police did not register a suo motu case. They are now preparing to file a formal complaint and have demanded strict action against all those involved.
