Agartala, 4th January 2025:   The administration has commenced an eviction drive to remove shops built on private land for the IOCL project. Despite prior notices given to traders, many did not comply.

The IOCL project adjacent to Sekerkote railway station requires a wide road for fuel oil storage. To facilitate this, a road is being constructed from Sekerkote Tea Garden Chowmuhani to the IOCL project under a central project. Shop owners in the Sekerkote Tea Garden Chowmuhani area were asked to remove their shops several days ago, and a notice was subsequently issued by the government. However, the shopkeepers did not vacate their premises.

Today, the Sadar Subdivision Administration, led by the DCM of Dukli Revenue Circle and the Tehsildar of Bikramnagar, and with the support of the police, initiated the eviction drive in the Sekerkote Tea Garden area.

The evicted shop owners have alleged that their shops were demolished without any provisions for rehabilitation by the government. They are demanding immediate compensation or resettlement elsewhere.
