Ex-MLA accused of election code breach in North Tripura

Agartala, 11th April 2026:  Dharmanagar subdivision in North Tripura witnessed tension on Friday after allegations of election code violations surfaced in the Madhuban ADC village area. The complaint was directed against former MLA of Jubarajnagar constituency, Malina Debnath.

According to local sources, opposition leaders accused Debnath of distributing loans while touring the area under the Karamchhara Assembly segment. The incident triggered unrest, prompting police from Dharmanagar station to rush to the spot. Officer-in-Charge Mina Debbarma and officials from the Election Commission were present as the administration took steps to restore order.

Meanwhile, Jubarajnagar MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath publicly raised the allegation and demanded intervention from the Election Commission.

Administrative sources confirmed that an investigation into the matter has already begun. While the situation is currently under control, a tense atmosphere continues to prevail in the area.
