Agartala, 14th May 2025: A family dispute turned violent late Tuesday night in the Pathariadar area under Madhupur police station, Kamalasagar assembly constituency, leading to severe injuries and a police case.
According to reports, tensions flared when Sajan Mia, a resident of the area, inquired about the health of his ailing nephew. The child, son of Rashid Mia and Rabia Khatun, had been suffering from an illness for several days. Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Rabia Khatun had taken the child to a local doctor in Madhupur and returned home after receiving routine treatment.
Around 10 pm, an exchange of words between Sajan Mia and his sister-in-law escalated into physical violence. Allegedly, after an argument over the child’s treatment, Sajan Mia pushed away his sister-in-law’s mobile phone before attacking her.
As the confrontation intensified, Rashid Mia intervened, but he too was reportedly assaulted by his younger brother. The altercation allegedly involved two other brothers, identified as Sujan Mia and Safiq Mia, resulting in both Rashid Mia and his wife sustaining serious injuries.
Following the incident, the injured couple sought medical treatment at Madhupur Health Center before filing a complaint at the Madhupur police station against the accused brothers, namely Sajan Mia, Sujan Mia and Safiq Mia.
A local resident remarked, “It’s tragic how familial concern turned into violence. What started as a simple inquiry about the child’s well-being ended in chaos.”
Authorities are investigating the matter further. Community members have expressed shock over the dispute, with some highlighting the irony of the situation, referencing the Bengali proverb, “Aunts have more compassion than mothers.”
