Family of deceased college student protests bail of accused in Chandrapur accident

Agartala, 28th January 2025:   The family members of Moumita Shil, a college student who tragically lost her life in a car accident at Chandrapur, have expressed their outrage over the bail granted to the accused Mantosh Deb. Moumita’s family surrounded the police headquarters and staged a protest making several explosive allegations against the police.

Moumita Shil was killed in a car accident in the Chandrapur area of Agartala city last Saturday night with her parents also sustaining injuries. Today, relatives and locals submitted a deputation to the West District Superintendent of Police demanding a fair trial in the overall incident of Moumita Shil’s death.

Moumita’s family members have strongly criticized the police of the East Agartala police station. They alleged, “The accused Mantosh Deb was not kept in lockup after being arrested. If the police could not arrest him, they should have informed us and we would have tried to arrest him ourselves.” The family is furious that the police granted bail to the accused in the horrific accident on the night of the 25th without any trial.

Today, relatives and locals submitted a deputation to the West District Superintendent of Police, demanding a fair trial in the death of Moumita Shil. The protesters insist that the accused in this incident should be given due punishment.
