Agartala, 9th April 2025:   Tensions escalated at Bishalgarh police station on Wednesday afternoon as family members of Rozina Akhter, a housewife allegedly assaulted by policeman Sabbir Hossain, demanded his immediate arrest.

According to reports, the incident took place on Tuesday in the Ghanimara Panchayat Tilla area. Rozina Akhter was allegedly thrown to the ground and beaten with a stick by Sabbir Hossain and his wife over a family dispute. Following the attack, Rozina was initially treated at Bishalgarh Subdivisional Hospital but was later referred to Agartala GBP Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

Police arrested Sabbir Hossain and brought him to Bishalgarh police station, where a counter-case was filed. However, the accused was released on bail late Tuesday night, sparking outrage among Rozina’s family members. They alleged that the police had accepted a bribe to release Hossain, claiming, “Justice has been compromised for money.”

The family staged a sit-in protest at the police station’s main gate, demanding accountability. Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Sen addressed the protesters, assuring them that the matter would be investigated thoroughly. During the protest, Rozina Akhter reportedly fell ill and was rushed to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital by fire department personnel.

The situation remains tense, with calls for transparency and justice growing louder. “We will not rest until the truth comes out,” said one of Rozina’s relatives.
