Agartala, 13th February 2026:   Local residents of Bamapur staged a road blockade on the Amarpur–Teliamura highway today, protesting against prolonged waterlogging in agricultural fields caused by poor drainage near a newly constructed bridge.

According to the demonstrators, nearly 100 kanis of farmland have remained submerged for the past 20 days. Farmers allege that the absence of a proper drainage system in the recently built bridge has led to water accumulating directly in their fields, destroying standing crops and causing severe financial losses.

The agitated farmers demanded immediate steps to establish a permanent drainage system and urged authorities to provide adequate compensation to those affected. They warned of launching a larger movement if the issue is not resolved quickly.

The blockade disrupted traffic for several hours on the busy Amarpur–Teliamura route, leaving long-distance buses and passenger vehicles stranded. Commuters faced significant hardship until the administration intervened. Officials later assured protesters of action, following which the situation was brought under control.
