Father arrested for allegations of abuse and attempted sale of baby girl

Agartala, 17th April 2025:   A resident of Daspara in Khayerpur assembly constituency Gautam Ghosh has been arrested following serious allegations of beating his three-and-a-half-month-old baby girl and attempting to sell her. The shocking incident came to light through various media outlets, creating uproar and prompting immediate action from the authorities.

According to police reports, Gautam Ghosh had been married for a year, and his wife gave birth to a baby girl three-and-a-half months’ back. It is alleged that Ghosh became angry upon the birth of the baby girl and repeatedly urged his wife to sell the child. When she refused, he resorted to physical abuse, beating the infant. Fearing for her baby’s life, the child’s mother fled their home on the first day of Baishakh.

The Yuva Prerna Samajik Sansthan, a local social organization, found the distressed mother and child and offered them shelter. Speaking to reporters, a member of the organization stated, “We couldn’t ignore the gravity of the situation. On Wednesday, we approached the Bodhjangnagar police station to report the incident and ensure justice for the mother and her child.”

On Thursday morning, with the support of the social organization, the accused Gautam Ghosh was arrested from his residence in Daspara, Khayerpur and brought to the police station for questioning.
