Father sells 1.5 day baby girl for Rs 30,000

Agartala, 23rd November 2023:   In a deeply distressing incident that has sent shockwaves through the Banshipara area under the Mungiakami R.D block of Teliamura sub-division, a one-and-a-half-day-old baby girl was allegedly sold by her father, Khuken Debbarma, for a sum of Rs 30,000.

According to reports, Khuken Debbarma sold his newborn daughter while his wife was sleeping, citing financial difficulties faced by the family. The distraught mother, now left without her infant daughter, is desperately seeking help, going door to door in an attempt to retrieve her child.

The matter gained public attention when local journalists brought it to the notice of MLA and State Minister Bikas Debbarma. Minister  Debbarma swiftly initiated administrative intervention, prompting a delegation from the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) office to investigate the incident.

The helpless mother’s plight has stirred emotions in the Mungiakami area, leading to a heightened sense of urgency in resolving the matter. The community is grappling with the shocking revelation, and the incident has raised concerns about the welfare of vulnerable families in the region.
