Agartala, 29th August 2025: Concerns over the quality of healthcare services at Unakoti District Hospital resurfaced today after a local resident staged a protest alleging mistreatment by hospital staff.
Dulal Mia, a resident of Ward 6 in Pakhirbada under Ichabpur Gram Panchayat, Gournagar Block brought his four-year-old daughter to the hospital around 8 am after she had been suffering from persistent fever for three days. Instead of receiving prompt medical attention, Mia claims he was subjected to rude behavior by the attending physician, Dr. Dhrupada Das.
According to Mia, Dr. Das dismissed the child’s condition and behaved inappropriately with him. Frustrated and distressed, Mia sat in protest outside the hospital gate with his ailing daughter, drawing attention from bystanders who also expressed anger over the alleged misconduct.
“The government pays doctors to safeguard public health, yet some treat patients with disrespect. Not all doctors are the same, but a few are making the system unbearable,” Mia told media personnel.
Local residents echoed his sentiments, criticizing the state’s repeated claims of healthcare improvement under the so-called “double-engine government.” They argued that such incidents of negligence and mistreatment are eroding public trust in government-run medical facilities.
The episode has reignited debate over the state of healthcare in Unakoti district, with many questioning whether the government’s promises of improved services are being fulfilled. Residents say the emotional toll on patients and their families is compounded by the lack of accountability and transparency in hospital operations.
As of the latest update, police intervened and Mia submitted a written complaint to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent.
