Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy launches WiFi connection in 19 colleges, promises cybersecurity measures

Agartala, 21st October 2024:   In a significant step toward enhancing digital connectivity in education, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday launched WiFi services in 19 colleges marking the first phase of a broader initiative that will cover 30 colleges across the state. The inauguration took place at Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya in Udaipur at 11:30 am, where Minister Singha Roy officially activated the WiFi connection during a ceremonial event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Singha Roy emphasized the importance of digital infrastructure in education. “We are committed to creating an environment where students can thrive in the digital age,” he said. “Today, we have connected 19 colleges with WiFi, and I urge all students to make the best use of this resource for their studies and growth.” The remaining 11 colleges are expected to be connected in the coming months, ensuring widespread access to digital learning tools across the state.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including MLA Rampada Jamatia, Udaipur Municipal Council’s chairperson Shital Chandra Majumdar, District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, Superintendent of Police Amit Pathak, and Director of IT Sector Jaya Aragul Desan. Zilla Parishad Member Samir Chakraborty and the principal of Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya were also present.

The ceremony began with a melodious opening song performed by students, followed by a vibrant tribal Hajagiri dance performance.

During a post-inauguration question-and-answer session with students, Minister Singha Roy highlighted the government’s commitment to cybersecurity. “As we expand digital access, the safety of our students remains a top priority,” he stated. “We will take all necessary measures to protect them from cybercrime.”

The WiFi launch is part of the state government’s broader push toward digital transformation in education, empowering students with tools to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
