Fireman recruitment in limbo, aspirants threaten street protests

Date:

Agartala,  14th  October 2026 :  Frustrated over the prolonged delay in the recruitment process for Fireman posts in the Tripura Fire and Emergency Services, a group of job aspirants submitted a deputation to the concerned authorities on Wednesday, demanding an early completion of the selection process initiated in 2022.

The candidates met the Joint Director, who also serves as the BTC Chairman, and the concerned woman official to seek clarity on the status of their recruitment. They alleged that despite repeatedly approaching the authorities and receiving assurances, the process had failed to make any visible progress.

According to the aspirants, around 1,800 candidates initially qualified in the physical test conducted under the recruitment notification issued in 2022 for Firemen and Drivers. Subsequently, more than 1,700 candidates appeared for the written examination, of whom approximately 1,400 qualified. Around 1,200 candidates later cleared the viva-voce.

The candidates pointed out that the recruitment process for Driver posts had already been completed and the selected candidates had begun their training, while the Fireman recruitment remained uncertain despite candidates clearing multiple stages of selection, including two written examinations.

They claimed that earlier, the authorities had cited delays related to approvals and the movement of official files. During Wednesday’s meeting, they were again assured that the recruitment process was underway and would be completed soon. However, no specific timeline was provided.

Expressing deep frustration, the aspirants said their age limits were gradually expiring, threatening to deprive them of an opportunity for which they had already invested considerable time and effort.

“If there were a Nobel Prize for submitting deputations, the candidates aspiring for Fireman posts in Tripura Fire Services would certainly win it,” one of the candidates remarked sarcastically, highlighting the repeated representations and protests they had been compelled to undertake.

The candidates warned that if the authorities failed to initiate concrete steps soon, they would have no option but to launch street protests to press for their demands. They said they were seeking a clear timeline and immediate action rather than further assurances, as uncertainty over their future continued to grow.
