Agartala, 27th June 2025: In a major crackdown against illegal infiltration, Tripura Police have detained eight individuals — including five Bangladeshi nationals and three Indian touts — from different locations in Agartala and Amtali area of West Tripura district within the past 24 hours.

According to police sources, a team from East Agartala Police Station on Friday apprehended two Bangladeshi women along with an Indian tout from the North Gate area of the city following a tip-off about suspicious movements.

“Based on information received, a police team launched an operation and detained two women and one man. During preliminary interrogation, it was found that the women had entered India illegally with the help of the Indian national,” said an official.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ruma Sheikh and Aklima Akhter — both Bangladeshi citizens — and Krishna Debnath, a resident of Notunbazar in Gomati district, who allegedly aided their illegal entry. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the law.

In a separate operation on Thursday night, Amtali Police, in coordination with intelligence officials, detained four more individuals from a naka point on the bypass road near Amtali Police Station.

Among those arrested were three Bangladeshi nationals — Chan Mia, Mamata Khatun, and Rina Khatun — and an Indian woman, Firoza Khatun, a resident of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district, who reportedly helped them cross the border illegally.

Police said the group was on its way to Agartala Railway Station, intending to travel to Delhi in search of work, when they were intercepted and taken into custody. Legal proceedings have been initiated against all four, and they were produced before the court on Friday.

Tripura Police have intensified surveillance across border-adjacent areas and major transit routes in light of increasing incidents of cross-border infiltration.
