Agartala, 10th July 2025:   Kanchanpur police arrested five individuals allegedly involved in heroin trafficking and consumption inside the under-construction COVID hospital building within the sub-divisional hospital complex. The arrests were made around noon following a tip-off, revealing that drug trade and abuse were occurring openly in daylight.

During the raid, authorities seized 85 heroin-filled vials containing 1.45 grams of the substance, along with drug paraphernalia, Rs 1,000 in cash and three mobile phones. The accused identified as residents of various localities under Kanchanpur and Anandabazar police stations have been booked under the NDPS Act.

The operation led by OC Uddyam Debbarma sparked public concern over the lack of security within the hospital premises. Police confirmed that several suspects managed to flee before the raid, and further investigation is underway to identify others linked to the drug network.
