Agartala, 7th May 2026: Sabroom Subdivision’s Brajendranagar resident, Mithun Nath, has found a new ray of hope in cultivating exotic gerbera flowers under government assistance. As part of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture 2024–25, he has begun gerbera farming in a protected structure with official support.
A modern floriculture infrastructure covering 200 square meters has been set up, where nearly 1,200 gerbera saplings have been planted. The total project cost has been estimated at ₹3,99,281. The initiative is being implemented by the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Tripura, with technical responsibility assigned to Bangalore-based Florence Flora Marketing. The construction of the flower garden was completed on November 20, 2025.
Officials highlight that the government’s push for modern technology in agriculture and alternative income sources is benefiting many marginal farmers. With gerbera’s comparatively high market value, the project is expected to become a major tool for Mithun Nath’s financial self-reliance. Satcchand Agri Subdivision Superintendent Manohar Das, along with local residents, expressed confidence that this initiative will pave the way for sustainable prosperity.
Locals believe such projects will not only empower individual farmers but also inspire village youth to take interest in modern agriculture and floriculture. With government support, technical guidance, and market-oriented planning, a new horizon of self-reliant farming is gradually emerging in South Tripura.
Speaking to the media, farmer Mithun Nath and Superintendent Manohar Das shared details of the project and its future prospects.
