Agartala, 17th  March 2026 :The Forest Department of Jampujala supported by Bishalgarh police carried out a large-scale raid in the Murabari area targeting illegal timber activities allegedly run by local strongman Mon Sarkar.

Officials stormed a clandestine sawmill and seized machinery used for timber smuggling. A black Thar vehicle parked nearby was also confiscated. When officers attempted to secure the car keys from Sarkar’s residence, his family reportedly refused to cooperate, defying police instructions.

Mon Sarkar, who has long been accused of terrorizing the Bishalgarh region, fled the scene along with his associates. Authorities noted that previous raids on the same facility had triggered violent clashes, leaving several youths injured.

This time, the raid was conducted in broad daylight with heavy police presence. Forest workers used loudspeakers to warn timber smugglers against continuing their illegal trade, signaling a tougher stance against organized forest crime in the region.
