Agartala, 1st March 2026:  Former Tripura Chief Minister and veteran CPIM leader Manik Sarkar on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of turning India’s democratic process into a “farce” by manipulating voter lists and marginalizing dissenting communities.

Speaking at a condolence meeting in memory of late Madhab Saha in Udaipur, Gomati District, Sarkar highlighted the worsening economic situation, rising prices of essential commodities, and the declining value of the Indian rupee.

“People’s quality of life is deteriorating. The BJP and RSS are deliberately creating divisions among communities to prevent them from uniting against anti-people policies,” Sarkar said. “While the Muslim community has been a primary target, Christians and other minorities are also facing harassment. Even in Parliament, the opposition is being denied space to speak for public welfare. This is not rhetoric—it is the reality facing every Indian today.”

Sarkar claimed that in Tripura, elections since 2018 have been manipulated, preventing citizens from freely choosing their representatives. “The BJP and RSS tried to replicate such tactics nationwide, but citizens are beginning to protest and resist. Slowly, people are uniting against these injustices. This government is running a regime of loot and intimidation that the public will not tolerate,” he asserted.

He specifically alleged the BJP is misusing voter lists to suppress dissent. “In Bihar, voter names of Muslims, Scheduled Castes, and economically weaker sections—especially those involved in protests—have reportedly been deleted. This is a direct assault on democratic rights and reflects a dangerous trend of targeting vulnerable communities for political gain,” Sarkar added.
