Agartala, 24th December 2025: The foundation stone for the new office building of the District Industries Centre (DIC) at Purba Jalefa in Sabroom subdivision was laid on December 24, 2025. The initiative aims to further decentralize and strengthen industrial administration across the state.
Until 2018, Tripura had only four functional DICs located in Agartala, Ambassa, Udaipur, and Kailashahar (North Tripura). In recent years, the state government has expanded the network by establishing four additional centres at Dharmanagar, Khowai, Bishramganj, and Sabroom, bringing administration closer to the people. This year, construction of dedicated office buildings for DICs in Dharmanagar and Sabroom has been initiated, with similar projects planned for Khowai and Bishramganj in the future.
The upcoming Sabroom DIC building, with an estimated cost of ₹1.57 crore, is envisioned not merely as an administrative hub but as a focal point for industrial and entrepreneurial development in South Tripura. Through the DIC, schemes such as PMEGP, PM-FME, NBM, PM Vishwakarma, MSME Program-RAMP, Swavalamban, and various skill development projects are implemented.
Earlier in the day, an administrative review meeting was held at the Sabroom Nagar Panchayat conference hall. The meeting was attended by Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Dakshin Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Datta, District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhijit Singh Yadav, Cultural Affairs Officer Amrit Das, Additional Director of Industries and Commerce Sabyasachi Debbarma, and General Manager Swapan Mitra, among others.
It is noteworthy that land acquisition and boundary demarcation for the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) near West Jalefa, close to Sabroom Railway Station, have already been completed. Additionally, the establishment of industrial estates in Santirbazar and Belonia, along with the inauguration of ICP Sabroom by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 9, 2024, has opened new avenues for industrial prospects in South Tripura.
