Four arrested in Agartala drug trafficking bust near Laxmi Narayan Temple

Agartala, 21st November 2024:  A young woman from Agartala city has been arrested along with three other youths in a significant drug trafficking bust by East Agartala police. The raid took place on Thursday afternoon at a park adjacent to Laxminarayan Temple, leading to the seizure of brown sugar worth several lakhs of rupees. The arrested individuals are Deepika Debnath, Jalil Mia, Pritam Das and Akash Debnath.

East Agartala police station OC Rana Chatterjee confirmed the arrests and the registration of a case under the NDPS section. “In addition to selling brown sugar, the suspects also consumed the drug,” he revealed, based on preliminary interrogations. The police seized Rs 7,500 in cash and a mobile phone from the suspects, with the cash reportedly being proceeds from the sale of brown sugar that day.

Chatterjee mentioned that several more individuals involved in the operation, who are currently still at large, will also be arrested. “These individuals are still under our radar, and we are committed to bringing them to justice,” he added. All the arrested individuals are between the ages of twenty and thirty.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the East Agartala police to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
