Agartala, 5th May 2025: A four-day-old baby girl was rescued from the Rodtila Bazar area of Khowai police station by workers of the Khowai Childline Protection Committee last night. The child was later sent to a child home following legal procedures.
Speaking on the matter, Khowai Childline Protection Committee Chairman and lawyer Nantu Acharya stated, “We received information on Sunday afternoon that a newborn girl had been taken without legal documentation by a resident of Rodtila Bazar, Khowai police station.” The child’s biological parents, identified as Prasonjit Das of Kata Chhara, Sidhai police station, and his wife Lakshmi Das of Rodtila Bazar, Khowai police station, were reportedly unaware of the circumstances under which their baby was taken.
Following intensive search efforts, Childline workers located the baby at the farm of Sachindra Dabbarma, a resident of Rodtila Bazar, late on Sunday night. “After receiving the tip-off, we acted swiftly and rescued the child, ensuring her safety,” Acharya confirmed.
The rescued baby was first brought to Khowai police station, where legal formalities were completed before she was sent to a child home named Amader Ghar in Narsingarh, Agartala. The operation was carried out under the initiative of the Khowai Women’s Police Station.
When asked whether the child had been sold, Acharya responded, “This matter is still under investigation. As of now, we have no evidence to confirm such a claim, but we will ascertain the facts in the coming days.” Notably, Sachindra Dabbarma was unable to produce any legal documents pertaining to the child during the rescue operation.
The rescue effort involved several officials, including Khowai Childline Protection Committee Project Coordinator Chameli Modak, Case Worker Shankhjit Biswas, Prasant Debbarma, Khowai Mahila Police Station Sub-Inspector Champa Das, along with personnel from Khowai Mahila Police Station and Khowai Police Station.
Authorities will now determine the appropriate course of action to reunite the baby with her biological parents. The police administration continues its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
